Five Koo Koo Kanga Roo Songs To Use For Great Preschool Warm Ups

I have four rules for preschool warm up songs:

1.They can’ be annoying

2. They can’t be old

3. They can’t drive me to throw my phone into the dark abyss of the bottom of the pit (I’m looking at you, Animal Action!)

4. Preschool warm up is also the one area in my life where I want a song to tell me (and my gymnasts) what to do.

Enter: Koo Koo Kanga Roo

If you haven’t discovered the magic that is Koo Koo Kanga Roo, consider your life changed starting now. This band made up of two dudes, Bryan and Neil, who perform quirky songs with kid-centered content and ‘dance along’ beats. Sure, Koo Koo Kanga Roo have gems like “Who Farted?” and their best known hit “Pop See Ko”, but we’re really here for the movement songs, am I right? Koo Koo songs give a little direction, but leave room for interpretation for the kid’s movements: the best of both worlds! You might have to improvise a bit, but it’ll be worth it.

You can listen to all of the songs on Youtube, but $10 gets you a whole digital album (there are 10 to choose from!), without those pesky commercials that play before each song on youtube. I’ve linked to the youtube page with each song so you can get a taste of the vibe of each song, but you can purchase Koo Koo music from their site here (and let’s support some artists, can we?)

Without further adieu, here are five Koo Koo Kanga Roo songs that make amazing preschool warm ups:

1. Get Yo Body Movin’

This is one of Koo Koo Kanga Roo’s ‘dance along songs.’ You can watch the video once and learn the move, and teach them to your gymnasts. This song will work for any theme week! I love this one because the kids can add their own spin on what the songs asks them to do.

2. Shake Yo Foot

Another awesome dance along song. Gymnasts can freestyle when they shake, or you can make up some moves to fit with this song. Also works with any theme or ‘skill builder’ (aka ‘no theme’) week.

3. I Get Loose

This jam is my absolute favorite and your gymnasts will eat it right up. Koo Koo Kanga Roo directs them to use their feet in different ways, so this would be a great one for Hellosies to Your Toesies, pointed and flexed toe week. You’ll be in cuteness overload when your gymnasts start to get down with this hot beat.

4. Monster Moves

Calling all halloween lovers! This song is PERFECT for Halloween week (yes, even though it’s currently June.) It asks the gymnasts to show off their ‘monster moves’, so you could let them freestyle that or introduce a specific ‘monster move’ you’re introducing for halloween week like ‘Frankenstein walks’ (walking across beam with arms out and straight leg kicks) or ‘floating ghost walks’ (walks across beam ‘floating’ up and down.)

5. Ninja Training

Hello, Ninja zone warm up! So many gyms are rocking some ninja programs, this is a perfect song to compliment that program. It also works perfectly for a regular preschool gym class to set the tone for a ninja theme week.

Play That Funky Music!

Musical warm ups are special in preschool because they tie your theme together, get your gymnasts moving and let you begin class in an engaging way. Koo Koo Kanga Roo songs are a fun way to change it up!
